Ever felt like you wanted to be in too many places at once?

The 2026 Hulaween lineup is not difficult because it lacks a centre. It is difficult because it has several. The String Cheese Incident anchors the festival across three nights. Pretty Lights arrives with an announced three-hour set. My Morning Jacket and Geese pull toward rock and psychedelia; Excision pushes toward large-scale bass; Green Velvet, KETTAMA and Salute open house and club choices; STS9, EOTO & Friends and Big Gramatik live in the space where instruments and electronics keep borrowing each other’s tools.  Too much! And we love it. 

Improvisation connects the weekend

Start with The String Cheese Incident, not because a host band must automatically win every fork in the road choice, but because its three-night presence explains the festival’s inflection. Improvisation allows a song, a guest and an audience to change direction together. The announced Warren Haynes Incident extends that reality: Haynes joins SCI for a Saturday Shebang drawing from musical histories connected with Gov’t Mule, the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers. 

From there, move toward EOTO & Friends, where current coverage names Scott Metzger and Kyle Hollingsworth as guests. STS9 offers another bridge. The band describes its own approach as instrumental music that combines electronic and acoustic methods. Eggy, Karina Rykman, Lettuce, Mountain Grass Unit, the Greyboy Allstars and LaMP offer different experiences through improvisation, groove and ensemble interplay. The point is not that these artists sound alike. It is that their sets reward the listening journey. 

Electronic music at different scales

Excision represents one extreme: a first Hulaween appearance from an artist associated with high-impact bass production. Of The Trees and the Memory Palace takeover offer a more curated bass environment. Crankdat, Hamdi, LYNY, A Hundred Drums, Ahee, Steller and Maddy O’Neal extend the selection through heavier, left-field and rhythm-led electronic music. Artist-side tour evidence confirms Excision’s event stop, but not the stage, time or production format. 

House and club music form a separate path. Green Velvet’s LaLaLand carries a curator’s point of view rather than a random stack of names. KETTAMA brings rave intensity; Salute leans toward fast, bright club movement; Tini Gessler, Riordan, Jackie Hollander and AK SPORTS widen the range. DEF: Off Limits adds a spatial idea: an in-the-round electronic environment inside the Spirit Lake system. 

Pretty Lights complicates both listening choices. A three-hour format creates room for development rather than a compressed festival sprint, while the project’s live/electronic construction speaks to listeners who do not recognize a hard border between band and producer. Daily Bread, Manic Focus, Opiuo, Motifv and Big Gramatik offer adjacent ways into beat-driven music with funk, sample culture or live-performance energy. Listen to how samples, instruments and rhythm are put together, rather than relying only on the genre label.

Let the bands reset your ears

My Morning Jacket, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Geese, Dope Lemon and Guerilla Toss occupy different corners of rock, indie and psychedelic music. Frost Children’s announced appearance is specifically a DJ set, giving their place on the bill a different format. Their value in this lineup is partly contrast. After hours of continuous low-end or improvisational expansion, a compact song, abrasive guitar or sharply defined vocal can reset the body’s attention. Hulaween’s mixed bill works when those changes feel like part of the weekend rather than a detour from its “real” genre.

Funk and soul make another connective tissue. Lettuce, the Greyboy Allstars, True Loves and Midnight Generation can pull dancers from jam, club and band audiences for different reasons. The smart discovery choice is often not the unfamiliar artist nearest your favourite genre. It is the one that shares a rhythm or performance method while changing everything around it.

Build conflicts after the schedule, not before it

The late additions matter because they sharpen rather than merely enlarge the bill: KETTAMA strengthens the club side of the lineup, Frost Children adds a DJ-set variant, Dean Turnley broadens dance music, and Warren Haynes deepens the host-band story.

Once set times arrive, choose three anchors: one performance you have a strong reason to see, one collaboration or format that may not recur and one discovery set outside your usual lane.  The park, camp and Spirit Lake are part of how music is encountered; moving constantly can turn a broad lineup into a series of partial entrances and hurried exits.

Use the final map alongside the timetable. A promising transition on paper may involve a longer walk than you want to make, and no advance guide can choose the best listening position for an unbuilt stage layout. Allow time to settle into a set, carry hearing protection and be willing to trade an extra stop for one complete performance.
